4-tert-butylcyclohexylacetate finnes i cis og trans former. Trans-isomeren har en rik, woodyodor, mens lukten av cis-isomeren er mer intens og mer blomster. Betraktelige variasjoner i cis-transforhold i kommersielle blandinger har liten effekt på de fysiske konstantene. Sammensetningen av blandinger bør derfor bestemmes ved gasskromatografi.
Esteren fremstilles ved katalytisk hydrogenering av 4-tert-butylfenol etterfulgt av acetylering av den resulterende 4-tert-butylcykloheksanol [291]. IfRaney nikkel brukes som katalysator, oppnås en høy prosentandel av trans-isomer. En rodium-karbonkatalysator gir en høy prosentandel av denne isomeren.
